Vista Alternative High School is an alternative program with approximately 260 students enrolled. The average age of the student is approximately 17.11 years old. Our program is funded by state Drop-Out Prevention funds and is available to Yuma Union High School District students with special circumstances or needs on a self-selected basis. We provide quality instruction with technology to our enrolled students. Enrollment is limited and is divided equally between morning and afternoon sessions. Students interested in attending Vista Alternative High School should visit with their school counselor in order to be considered for enrollment.

Our program includes, but is not limited to, core academic classes, art classes, culinary arts courses, sociology, marketing, vocational pre-employment classes, and computer labs. Through the hard work and dedication of both our staff and our students, our school maintains the status of a Performing school as the result of our students' performance on the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) test taken each year.

Students who are interested in attending Vista Alternative High School are first selected by their high school counselor and put on a waiting list. As openings occur at Vista, names are submitted by their counselors for screening. The screening committee looks at the student's age, transcript, attendance and discipline history. The committee carefully screens out students who have a lengthy discipline history. The committee then interviews the students who pass the paper screen. A parent or guardian must be present at the interview unless the student is 18 years of age. During the interview, attendance, code of conduct, and high expectations for success are discussed.
